Andrea

When Andrea was six years old she had a near drowning experience in a backyard pool that left her afraid of the water.  As she got older, she didn’t want to be left behind as her friends enjoyed going to the pool. She was embarrassed that she was unable to swim and move around the pool freely like her friends and upset with herself for letting her fear of the water stop her from having fun.  She asked her mom if she could take swim lessons at the Y. With the help of the Strong Kids Campaign, Andrea has been enrolled in swim lessons for the past year. At first, she relied on a pool noodle to make her feel safe in the water. Today, Andrea continues to feel more comfortable in the water with each lesson.  One of her proudest moments was when she jumped off the diving board.
