I have been a member of the YMCA since 1968. My father passed away when I was just 4 years old. My mother wanted to make sure I would be involved in an organization that not only kept me physically active, but also helped me to develop good values and leadership skills. As a result, I spent most of my childhood years at the Y where I met Cameron McCain who then lead youth physical fitness activities in our area. After progressing through this program, Cameron and the late John Bartman selected me to be one of the leaders of the program. These two men were great role models for me then as well as have been mentors for me in my adult life.

The people that I have met through the years as a member of the Y, and the programs that have helped to develop me as a leader are the reason the Strong Kids Campaign means so much to me.  It gives me a chance to give back to the YMCA, giving other kids the same opportunities that were offered to me. The YMCA will always hold a special place in my heart, and it is a privilege to have been able to volunteer my time and to donate to the Strong Kids Campaign.
