Safe, affordable and healthy fun
The Verbeten family enjoys the opportunity to be involved in many YMCA offerings. Parents Don and Sharon use the lifestyle center and attend fitness classes. With their two-year-old daughter Holland they also enjoy Rainbow Rompers, a drop-in play time for preschool children and parents, and YMCA Family Nights.
“We do a lot here…he can do his thing, I can do my thing, and Rompers and Family Night are kind of her thing,” says Sharon of the benefits of a YMCA family membership. Don adds that YMCA activities fit into the family’s schedule and keep them active: “It’s convenient, and it’s really important with her development that we do physical stuff.”
Sharon agrees. “It’s a good, safe, fun alternative to sitting at home…this is better for us than just turning the TV on.” And Holland? She’s not saying much yet but her laughter and energy at a recent Family Night let everyone know she enjoys playing at the YMCA.
Her parents definitely value the opportunity for socialization with other families and children. “She got to meet other kids, which I thought was great. As we would come on Saturday nights there would be this little girl we would look forward to seeing,” Sharon recounts. “That’s kind of a neat camaraderie we’ve learned through both Family Night and Rompers…being an only child it’s especially important that she’s around other kids.”
What’s more is that the entire family enjoys these activities free of cost with their YMCA membership. “I think especially now people should take advantage of the programs that can save you money,” Sharon encourages. “It’s included with the membership. If we go to a movie, that’s extra.”
Sharon, Don, and Holland—we’re glad you are enjoying the YMCA. Hopefully some new friends come out to meet you soon!
