21st Century Community Learning Center Afterschool Backpack Program

Many families in our community struggle to provide the basic needs for their children, such as a healthy meal or adequate nutrition. While in school, these students are provided with free or subsidized meals, but some families may not have the resources to provide the quantity or quality of food for their children over the weekend.

For the 2017-18 school year, through the generosity of the Walmart Foundation and the Cornerstone Foundation, the families of our 21C after school programs at Eisenhower, Doty, Howe, Baird, Beaumont and Sullivan Elementary Schools are able to take home food each weekend to help relieve this challenge. The goal is that they stay nourished and healthy over the weekend and come back on Monday ready to succeed at school! Past support for this initiative has come from Randall Cobb’s Helping Hands Foundation, the Donald Driver Foundation, and the Northwestern University Dance Marathon.
