Welcome to the Downtown Y Renovation
On Monday, April 18th, 2016, the Downtown Y began a $13 million renovation project which will cover a majority of the existing building addressing both the current and anticipated needs of the community. Once renovations are complete, the Y will feature a number of enhancements, including an expanded 2 story wellness area, an expanded gymnastics center, increased circulation and visibility with the construction of a center atrium, a family adventure zone and brand new locker rooms including a new family locker room along with many other upgrades.
There are currently over 2000 members who attend the Downtown facility, with more expected with the recent Downtown area revitalization in business and residence. The plan also calls for a new accessible entrance option as well as replacement of most ventilation and roofing systems. Most existing programs will remain open during construction. The project is expected to be completed in approximately 12 months.
Berners-Schobers and Associates, Inc is the architect and Immel Construction is serving as construction manager. This 90 year building was recently placed on both the State and National Register of Historic Places.
