Spring Cleaning Tips for a Healthier You
Thursday, March 31, 2016
Spring cleaning means something different to everyone. Some may take this time of year to clean out the garage or basement. Others will go through jam-packed closets to donate clothes and shoes to those in need. Some people spend time outside planting garden beds and landscaping. This spring, make time to focus on your health. By following these simple tips, you can create the fresh start you need to accomplish all your spring and summer goals.
Clean out your pantry and cupboards
Having foods such as candy, chips, and soda in the house does not mean you have to eat it. Determine what your body truly needs to accomplish your health and fitness goals, and clear out the rest. Donate unneeded items to a food pantry and throw expired items away.
Make room for the fresh fruits and vegetables getting ready to hit the shelves. Consider joining a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) and plan ahead to attend the many farmer’s markets in our area. Eating fresh, locally sourced food items is a great way to support and nourish your health and fitness goals.
Cash in your spare change
Remember that jar of coins you have been saving? Take those funds and invest in personal training sessions. Your health is your greatest wealth, so choose to invest in yourself. A fitness expert can turn your weaknesses into strengths and provide the necessary accountability for you to be your best.
Consider spending a little now to save a lot later. Take your bike to the local bike shop for a tune-up. Upgrade your worn out sneakers to a new pair with the perfect fit. Take inventory of your current fitness gear so you can enjoy your favorite outdoor activities safely and comfortably.
Clear your mind
Take time to be with yourself. Set a timer for two minutes each day to be silent and focus on your breathing. Keeping your mind clear can reduce stress and allow you to focus on what is most important.
Having too many fitness aspirations can also clutter your mind and derail your training plan. Simplify your fitness goals by choosing one or two main events to complete this season with your full attention and focus. The Green Bay area has a variety of outdoor fitness events that are appropriate for many ages and skill-levels, including 5K’s, half-marathons, and more. Identifying one or two events you wish to accomplish will make your training efforts more productive, and the results more meaningful.
