We have all seen the advertisements and commercials promoting better health. And most of us have a desire to get healthier but never make a serious attempt to do it. Why? It’s too hard, I don’t have time, why would I want to do that? Often times, the answer is a simple as what we eat! Nutrition is a key component to losing weight, looking better, fitting into our clothes, and having more self-esteem. It is also the one thing people have a hard time controlling. Big portions, supersized options, potlucks at work, backyard BBQ’s, all tend to derail our efforts to properly fuel our bodies.
Well, as trainers we even fall into the same rut that everyone else does, and need to look at some of the options out there for a healthier lifestyle. I love keeping things simple and easy when it comes to nutrition. Tracking what we eat can be a very simple way to make sure we are getting the foods we need. These days our phones, computers, and social media play a huge role in our lives and are right at our fingertips. A popular app out there that people use to track what they eat is MyFitnessPal. Using this app can help make portion control a part of our routine.
Most people who use this site/app, utilize the tracking tool the most. This is where you have the opportunity to track all the things you eat in day. Once you set up your free account and put in some information about yourself, it will let you know how many calories you should consume in one day. It will break it down into breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. Based on the information you provide, you will also have a breakdown of how much sugar, sodium, carbs, protein, and fat you should consume. The convenience of having your phone with you or being able to quickly visit the website, contribute to increased success with tracking nutrition. This helps keep things in perspective and keeps you working towards a healthier lifestyle.

I have been using it for a while and know it can work. In a fast paced world, it can be our technology that helps to slow things down and put it all in perspective.
