Child Abuse Prevention
Working together to protect children and create safe, supportive environments for all.
Creating Safe Spaces for Everyone
At the YMCA, the safety and well-being of children, youth, and vulnerable populations is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to creating environments where every person feels safe, supported, respected, and able to thrive.
Our partnership with Praesidium, a leader in abuse risk management, strengthens our ongoing commitment to abuse prevention and safety. Through established safety practices, education, training, and share responsibility, we work together to help prevent abuse and maintain a culture where the protection of children and vulnerable individuals comes first.
We invite our members and families to learn more about our commitment, understand the role we all play in creating safe environments, and explore the resources available on this page.

Tips for Protecting Youth From Sexual Abuse
Protecting children starts with awareness, recognizing warning signs, and taking action when something does not seem right.
1. KNOW
Learn to recognize boundary violations and warning signs. Talk with children about personal safety and help them understand when and how to ask for help.
2. SEE
Stay alert to changes in behavior or other signs of concern. Listen carefully and follow up when something seems wrong.
3. RESPOND
Take concerns seriously. Stay calm, listen, support the child, and report suspected abuse through the appropriate channels.
When a child shares a concern, avoid blame or threats and focus on their safety and support.
