Greater Green Bay YMCA Launches Free Public Health Vending Machine
The Greater Green Bay YMCA is proud to announce the installation of a new Public Health Vending Machine outside the Ferguson Family YMCA, located on the Pine Street side of the building. Launching Monday, July 28, 2025, this 24/7, free, and anonymous resource provides lifesaving health items to the community—no questions asked.
Meeting a Critical Community Need
Thanks to funding from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, the vending machine expands access to vital public health tools such as Narcan (naloxone), fentanyl test strips, and other essential supplies. These items are critical in preventing overdose and promoting health and safety for individuals and families across the Green Bay area.
As Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich shared, “Addiction and drug abuse affect families of all backgrounds… we’re stronger when we care for one another.” This initiative aligns with broader harm reduction efforts supported by the City of Green Bay.
What the Vending Machine Offers
The new vending machine is part of a growing movement toward practical, stigma-free public health solutions. It provides:
-
Narcan and fentanyl test strips for overdose prevention
-
Basic hygiene items like toothbrushes, toothpaste, and soap
-
First aid essentials including bandages and wound care items
-
Other personal care products such as feminine hygiene supplies and hand sanitizer
By removing financial and social barriers, the Y is reaching people who might not otherwise access these resources.
“We are excited and encouraged by the installation of the public health vending machine in our community,” said Green Bay Metro Fire Chief Matthew Knott. “The basic necessities, safety equipment, and potentially life-saving medications located in these machines will go a long way to make our community healthier and safer.”
A Natural Fit for the Y’s Mission
The Greater Green Bay YMCA has been committed to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility for over 150 years. Hosting the vending machine is a seamless extension of our mission.
“The Y is a trusted space where people from all backgrounds feel safe to be, belong, and become,” said Jamie Hanner, President and CEO of the Greater Green Bay YMCA. “We already serve as a community hub for health and wellness, and the Y values our partnership with the city in helping with community needs.”
This initiative reflects the Y’s belief in meeting people where they are—especially when it comes to life-saving resources.
How You Can Help
The Y is actively seeking community partners to help keep the machine stocked with vital items. Organizations interested in donating supplies—such as first aid kits, feminine hygiene products, or personal care items—can reach out at enews@greenbayymca.org.
Together, we can make Green Bay a safer, healthier, and more compassionate place for all.
