Celebrating Disability Pride Month at the YMCA
Every July, we celebrate Disability Pride Month — a time to honor the history, achievements, and contributions of people with disabilities. It’s also a reminder of the importance of creating spaces where everyone feels welcome and included.
Disability Pride Month began in July to mark the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which was signed into law on July 26, 1990. This law was a major step forward for equal rights, helping break down barriers and protect people with disabilities from discrimination.
For many, Disability Pride is about more than just awareness. It’s about pushing back against stigma and celebrating disability as an important and natural part of human diversity. It’s about community, self-acceptance, and pride in who you are.
At the YMCA, we are proud to stand alongside the disability community and work every day to make sure people of all abilities can belong and thrive. We do this through accessible programs, adaptive activities, and events that bring our community together.
This year, we invite you to celebrate with us in partnership with CP. Join us for our Disability Pride Month Celebration on July 10 at our Webster Avenue location. Enjoy live music, food from Grounded on the Go, community resource booths, and fun for the whole family — all while celebrating inclusion and the contributions of people with disabilities in our community.
Event Details:
Date: July 10
Time: 3–7 PM
Location: 2801 S. Webster Ave
Together, we can build a stronger, more welcoming community for everyone.
